Delta Academies Trust Receives Approval for New Alternative Provision Schools in Calderdale, Barnsley, Kirklees & Stockton-on-Tees
We are delighted that Delta Academies Trust, in partnership with Calderdale Council, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council and Kirklees Council, has received Department for Education approval to open new Alternative Provision schools for children aged 8-16. Delta has also received approval to open an 11-16 Alternative Provision in partnership with Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
This will help meet the need for high quality alternative provision places in the Calderdale, Barnsley, Kirklees and Stockton-on-Tees areas, to inspire and support young people to re-engage in learning.
These purpose-built schools will allow our young people to benefit from a broad, enriching, and inclusive curriculum, delivered through outstanding teaching and learning. The schools will follow the highly successful Delta model, which incorporates the blueprint of the DfE’s alternative provision Taskforce pilot, embedding multi-agency support within a school setting.
The new schools will provide state-of-the-art environments for students to undertake their studies in high-quality settings. We are excited we will be able to offer an ambitious range of academic and technical subjects, underpinned by individualised pastoral support, care and career guidance, which will equip students with the skills and knowledge to help them take their next steps in education, training, or employment.
We look forward to working with Calderdale Council, Barnsley Council, Kirklees Council, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and a wide range of stakeholders to deliver these inspiring projects.

Many pupils with additional needs make more sustained progress when they can access a specialist setting, and creating additional SEND provision is also vital to families, as well as pupils themselves.
The council has already made a multi-million-pound commitment to rebuild two existing special schools, as well as transforming SEND services and support across the district.
